I remember reading somewhere that in coming years man would try and reach Mars and that it would take somewhere around 1.5 years for the space shuttle to reach to Mars from Earth. The organizations [ISRO's NASA's] would soon start searching for a person to be aboard the shuttle. They believe that it would be a difficult job.
My take: Finding someone who can live in a small space with nothing to do for around 1 year and remain sane ain't that easy. I have been doing my part to get the job :) Have been preparing real hard for the last month.. When the applications open up.. I am sure to apply...

i don't know what they will be paying...Thing is you wont have to spend a penny on the shuttle..
but one things for sure.. you are guaranteed the job for ~4 years.. (2 yrs to go and 2 yrs to come back).. In the current situation what do you think an IT guy would prefer ??
